Add bookmarkPeter Voser
Position: Chief Executive Officer
Age: 54 years (August 29, 1958)
Nationality: Swiss
Alma mater: Zurich University of Applied Sciences
Peter Voser joined Shell in 1982 after graduating from the University of Applied Sciences, Zýrich. After university, he would go on to work in a number of finance and business roles in Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Argentina and Chile.
Voser swapped Chile for London in early 1997, when he became the Group Chief Internal Auditor. In 1999, he was appointed Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Shell Europe Oil Products. He became CFO of the Global Oil Products Business in early 2001 and a member of the Oil Products Executive Committee.
Before his appointment as CEO, Voser had been CFO and an Executive Director of Royal Dutch Shell since 2004. He was CFO of the Royal Dutch/Shell Group of Companies from October 2004 to July 2005.
Commentators have agreed that Voser is leaving the supermajor on a stable standing within the global business sphere, having steered the company through one of the most volatile periods in the history of the oil industry, including the Shell reserves scandal of 2004.
One of the outstanding achievements of his tenure was the initiation of the Prelude floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) platform off the coast of Western Australia. Weighing six times as much as the world's largest aircraft carrier, when it comes into commission in 2017, Prelude will be the first ever craft of its type and the prototype for monetising stranded and marginal gas fields the world over.
