To mark the Year of the Horse we’ve produced a brand new infographic that forecasts China’s blossoming energy future.

According to recent statistics released by BP, in 2035 China will become the world’s largest energy importer, exceeding that of Europe, as import dependence rises from 15% to 20%



In this infographic we focus on some of the reasons why, including:

  • The Chinese economy expanding by 247% through 2035
  • China overtaking the USA as the world’s largest oil consumer by 2027
  • The People’s Republic overtaking Russia as the world’s second largest gas consumer by 2025
  • Oil import dependence rising from 57% in 2012 to 76% in 2035, while gas dependence rises from 25% to 41%.
