Oil and Gas IQ’s in person events are in full swing again. This week we were in Houston for our Connected Worker Summit where leaders from across the oil and gas industry got together to discuss strategies and ideas to build an engaged workforce.

It’s a challenge that industrial companies everywhere face as they struggle with ongoing labor shortages and decreasing employee tenure. Many baby boomers are expected to retire in the coming years and with them goes decades of experience.

There are fewer young people around who want to pursue industrial careers and the COVID-19 pandemic only added fuel to the fire forcing social distancing and the “Great Resignation.”

Innovation in how companies are using digital technologies has helped to address some of these challenges. Many companies are developing connected worker strategies to improve onboarding, increasing productivity, capture knowledge from some of their most experienced recruits and enhance retention.

But how can you leverage digital technologies to effectively connect people, processes and technology? What are the stumbling blocks you should avoid? What are the cutting-edge technologies that you can use to drive next level operational performance?

Those are just a few of the topics that the delegates at the summit have been debating this week.

Here’s a few of the highlights from yesterday:

EDF's Remi Raphael, Chevron's Jason Gislason and Julie Thyne discussed the future of industrial work.

Nine Energy Service's Sean Barnes and Alice de Casanove from Airbus talked about the importance of cultural leadership and getting buy-in from both the top down and the ground up for all your digital transformation initiatives.

Jose Pires reminded everyone of the importance of getting your process foundations right because technology can make “stupid happen at the speed of light.”

Kyndryl took to the stage to discuss how you connect your connected workers, and how you can do it reliably over private LTE/5G networks. You can't have a connected worker without a reliable connection, after all!

So much expertise in that room and there were so many more thought provoking presentations and discussions! The conference continues today with more from leading companies like Duke Energy, Fairlife, Baker Hughes, Air Liquide, Chevron and even NASA. Follow the updates in real time on Oil and Gas IQ social media feed.

We’ll be running summaries of some of the key sessions in the coming weeks right here on Oil and Gas IQ. Stay tuned for our ongoing coverage!
